Magi football earns first road win of season

DICKINSON — The Minot High School football team used an offensive explosion to defeat Dickinson 48-20 on Friday evening. With the road win, Minot improved to 2-2 (1-1 WDA) on the season.

The Magi’s 48 points in the game bested their prior season total (42). Minot scored 20 points in the third quarter.

“We were concerned with our level of play in the first half,” Minot head coach Barry Holmen said. “In the second half, our defense played very solidly and went right at them.”

Minot senior running back Payton Philion led the charge, scoring three touchdowns on the night. Every Minot player saw action on the field in the win over the Midgets.

“A lot of kids ran around and had fun tonight,” Holmen said. “We were pleased with that.”

Minot will host Bismarck Century on Sept. 27 for the annual homecoming game. The contest at Duane Carlson Stadium will be held at 7 p.m.
