The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs won their third straight game against the defending Expedition League champion Western Nebraska Pioneers with a five-run effort in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 8-5 Sunday night.

Zavian Caldwell started on the mound for the Sabre Dogs and went six innings with four strikeouts while allowing five runs which all came in the top of the second.

The bullpen stepped up with Colton Bridges having his best outing of the year. He got the win Sunday night while allowing no runs, hits or walks in two innings. Cody Waters then shut the door and got his first save of the year with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.

The Sabre Dogs led off the game with an RBI triple from Mason Dinesen in the bottom of the first and got one more from an RBI groundout from Crews Taylor.

After that, they were only able to get one more run in the third until their breakout inning in the bottom of the eighth. Crews Taylor started the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Phillip Childs. Then Chauncey Callier hit a double and Josh Paino was intentionally walked to load the bases.

The game-winning hit went to Nick Mistone with a three-run double down the left field line to make it 8-5.

The Sabre Dogs are off until the July 18 when they will take on the Pioneers in Gering, Nebraska. This evening is Fan Fest with a Home Run Derby and Tuesday night is the 2019 Expedition League All-Star Game. Both events start at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.
