Rain postpones WDA baseball tournament

BISMARCK — Rain and wet fields postponed all games Friday at the Class A West Region baseball tournament in Bismarck. Play resumes this morning with the intention of finishing the tournament today at the Sanford Sports Complex and the Shiloh Christian baseball diamonds.

Minot High will play its loser-out contest against Jamestown at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon at the Shiloh Christian fields. With a win, the Magi would move over to the Sanford Sports Complex for a state qualifier game at 4 p.m.

Sabre Dogs season opener postponed

The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs postponed its season opener Friday due to inclement weather. The game against the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks has been rescheduled to June 17th at 7:05 p.m. Those with tickets to the game can exchange them for a ticket on a different date upon request or the tickets will be redeemable for the make-up game.

The Sabre Dogs attempt to start the 2019 Expedition League season today against the Whiskey Jacks. Gates open at 6 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

MSU’s Michael Borst collects second All-Region honor

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Minot State senior Michael Borst garnered his second all-region honor as The National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced their Division II Central Region teams.

Borst was named to the All-NCBWA Central Region Second Team after landing on the D2 Conference Commissioners Association All-Central Region Second Team earlier this month.

The McHenry, Ill. native hit .391 this season with 15 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 61 RBI this season.

Borst was a perfect 31-for-31 in stealing bases while notching a .615 slugging percentage.

Borst set eight Division II single-season records at Minot State this season in starts (54), hits (70), runs (59), RBI (61), walks (32), intentional walks (5), times hit by pitch (16) and on-base percentage (.500).

Minot State concluded the 2019 season with a 36-18 overall record and finished second in the NSIC Baseball Tournament after falling to Augustana in the championship game.
