MSU baseball drops both games to Minnesota Crookston in season finale

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Minot State baseball team’s regular season came to an end on Saturday, as the Beavers (32-16, 24-10 NSIC) dropped two games on the road to Minnesota Crookston (28-19, 20-12 NSIC).

Leading 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning during Game 1, Minot State fell victim to a late comeback attempt by the Golden Eagles. Crookston’s Reed Hjelle knotted the score on the first at-bat with a solo home run off senior ace Jack Gamba, and Mason Ruhlman gave his team a 7-5 edge soon afterwards with a double that brought in two runs.

The Beavers were unable to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning, and the Golden Eagles escaped with a 7-5 victory. Minot State had a 4-0 advantage through three innings in Game 2 only to see Crookston erupt for six runs in the fourth and cruise to the 9-4 win.

Darrel Doll finished with four RBIs and two runs on 5-for-8 hitting in both games combined, while fellow senior Wyatt Schlosser recorded two RBIs and two runs on 3-for-6 hitting.

The Beavers will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NSIC tournament in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where they’ll face No. 5-seeded Wayne State on Wednesday at Putz Field. Minot State split its only doubleheader of the season with the Wildcats on April 10. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
