Majettes tennis takes third at State Dual Meet

GRAND FORKS — The Minot High School girls tennis team finished the year strong as a team and took third place in the State Dual Meet team championship Thursday at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks.

The West Region No. 1-seeded Majettes took on the East’s No. 4-seeded Grand Forks Red River Roughriders in the quarterfinals and cruised to a 4-1 win. The Majettes swept singles with wins from Raquel Egge, Eden Olson and Sydney Fettig. Doubles partners Morgan Wheeler and Valeria Cevallos picked up the fourth and final win for Minot.

Advancing to the semifinals, the Majettes faced East’s No. 2-seeded Fargo Davies. The Majettes stumbled against the depth of the Davies, dropping the match 3-2.

“I thought we had definite chances today to get back to the championship, but Davies was able to win the big points at crucial times,” Minot head coach Scott DeLorme said.

Raquel Egge and Olson held steady at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to capture wins for the Majettes against Fargo Davies.

To finish the day, the Majettes faced Fargo North for third place. With a sweep in doubles and continued success from Egge and Olson, Minot finished on a high note with a 4-1 win over Fargo North.

“Raquel Egge and Eden Olson both went 3-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. They were very solid for us at the top of our lineup all year and today was no different,” DeLorme said. “In doubles, we had different combinations throughout the day and had some success especially in (the quarterfinal and third place matches).”

With team dual play done for the year, the Majettes now turn their focus to the individual tournament today beginning at 10 a.m. at Choice Health & Fitness. Raquel Egge will start the day agianst Olivia Soine of West Fargo. Eden Olson and Joelle Fettig will face Miranda Sommerfeld and Abigail College of West Fargo Sheyenne in the doubles quarterfinals while Sofia Egge and Morgan Wheeler will faceoff against Kaitlyn Lee and Laura Kendlinger of Fargo Davies.
