Majettes tennis takes home third straight WDA team title

For the third season in a row, the Minot High School girls tennis team has found themselves at the top of the West Region. With three match wins on Thursday, the Majettes took home the West Region Team title.

The Majettes entered the tournament as the No. 2-seed with a 7-1 WDA record. Their one conference loss came from Mandan on April 27th. The Braves defeated the Majettes, 5-4.

Starting off the day, the Majettes faced No. 7 Bismarck St. Mary’s and narrowly made it through with a 3-2 win. Raquel Egge and Eden Olson secured wins in singles. Joelle Fettig teamed up with Morgan Wheeler for doubles to defeat St. Mary’s Mary Richter and Olivia Anderson in straight sets.

The Majettes then faced No. 3 Dickinson for the opportunity to play in the championship match. The Majettes defeated the Midgets, 4-1, to advance. The Majettes saw wins from Egge and Olson in singles. Both doubles pairs had success against Dickinson, which consisted of Sofia Egge paired with Joelle Fettig and Morgan Wheeler paired with Sydney Fettig.

Then it was on to the championship match for the Majettes, having made it through without facing Mandan. Legacy defeated Mandan, 3-2, for a spot in the championship match. The Majettes defeated the Sabers, 3-2. The Majettes earned their three points from singles play, with wins from Raquel Egge, Eden Olson and Sydney Fettig.

With the WDA team championship secured, the Majettes and the rest of the West Region will move on to the individual tournament today. Competing for Minot in singles are Raquel Egge, Valeria Cevallos and Sydney Fettig. Competing in doubles for Minot are Joelle Fettig paired with Eden Olson and Sofia Egge paired with Morgan Wheeler.

The individual tournament is scheduled begin at 7:30 a.m. at Hammond Park, with select matches being played at Roosevelt park, weather permitting. Follow @MinotTennis or @WDAsports on Twitter for tournament updates.
