Majettes tennis defeats Demons, 8-1

Ashton Gerard/MDN Minot High senior Joelle Fettig runs to hit a backhand shot in a singles match against Bismarck High Tuesday at Hammond Park.

After a tough road loss to West Fargo Sheyenne on Saturday, the Minot High School girls tennis squad was back on the courts Tuesday against Bismarck High. The Majettes (8-3, 4-1 West Region) defeated the Demons (3-2, 3-2 West Region) 9-1 at Hammond Park in Minot.

Senior Raquel Egge and freshman Eden Olson anchored the top of the lineup with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Majettes.

“We are fortunate to have as good of a 1-2 combination in the region,” Majettes head coach Scott DeLorme said. “Both of those girls are starting to play some of their best tennis of the year at a good time.”

Helping get the first five wins to secure the match for the Majettes were Joelle Fettig, Sydney Fettig and Morgan Wheeler.

“All three of those girls are capable of winning big matches, and they proved that today,” DeLorme said. “We like our depth and know it can be an asset for us going forward.”

Ashton Gerard/MDN Majettes sophomore Morgan Wheeler hits a forehand against Bismarck High Tuesday in Minot.

With the match win secured in singles, the Majettes were able to relax and play stress-free in doubles. The Majettes swept doubles to end the day against Bismarck.

Up next, the Majettes travel to Bismarck on Thursday to take on Bismarck St. Mary’s at 4 p.m. at the Tom O’Leary Tennis Courts.
