Majettes soccer wins on Senior Day against Jamestown

Ashton Gerard/MDN Minot High school freshman MaLiah Burke (11) prepares to fire the ball towards the goal against Jamestown, Saturday in Minot.

There’s nothing like celebrating seniors than one last win to finish the regular season. The Minot High School girls soccer team (9-2-1, 9-2-1 WDA) defeated the Jamestown Blue Jays (3-8-2, 3-8-1 WDA), 5-1. The Majettes honored their seniors — Allison Lepp, Claire Weltz, Alison Casey and Angelina Opperude — at the match.

“Great win on Senior Day,” Minot High head coach Matt Pfau said. “Four of the goals were very quality goals (with) great ball movement (and) great finishes.”

About halfway through the first half, Minot’s Morgan Perrin got the first goal on the board assisted by Brooklyn Casey. Lainey Sandberg got the Majette’s second goal less than two minutes later assisted by MaLiah Burke.

With just over six minutes left in the first half, Lepp added to the score, assisted by Perrin, to end the half up 3-0 on Jamestown.

In the second, Jamestown got on the board 15 minutes in with their only goal scored by Hannah Murchie.

Lepp netted her second goal of the day off an unassisted free kick with 23:28 left in the game. Minot’s final goal came from Arin Oster, assisted by Sandberg, with 20 minutes left.

With the seeds now set for the WDA Tournament Thursday, May 23, Minot has secured the No. 2 spot in the region and will face No. 1 Bismarck High at 7:30 p.m. in Mandan.
