Lions baseball wins both games against MLSG

Justin Martinez/MDN Bishop Ryan senior Mason Hedberg throws a pitch during the Lions’ doubleheader against MLS-Glenburn on Monday at Corbett Field. Ryan won both five-inning games by scores of 5-4 and 11-4.

The Bishop Ryan baseball team handled business on Monday, as it won a pair of five-inning games against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood/Glenburn at Corbett Field by scores of 5-4 and 11-4.

The Muskrats got off to a strong start in Game 1, claiming a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. But the Lions still had something left in the tank.

After one run scored off a passed ball, junior Calvin Watkins tied the game with an RBI triple that allowed senior Mason Hedberg to cruise home. Watkins came home two at-bats later, as another passed ball allowed him to score the game-winning run.

The Lions didn’t need a comeback in Game 2. Ryan scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead and ultimately cruised to the 11-4 win.

Watkins finished with one RBI and two runs on 2-for-2 hitting, while senior Hunter Johnson recorded one RBI and two runs on 2-for-3 hitting.

Next up for Ryan is a doubleheader against Surrey today at Corbett Field to close out the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
