MSU baseball falls twice to New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — The Minot State baseball team is still searching for its first win after being swept Tuesday by New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

The Beavers (0-4) lost Game 1, 5-2, and Game 2, 9-3. MSU led in both contest before falling to the Cowboys (6-4).

Celestino Rodriguez gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1 on a two-run double. New Mexico Highlands scored five runs answered — two in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth — off three hits to take the win.

MSU took a 3-0 lead in the third inning of Game 2. Michael Borst provided a sacrifice fly and Andrew Black drove a two-run single back up the middle.

Just like in the first game, the Cowboys answered in the bottom half. New Mexico Highlands capitalized on two MSU errors to score six unearned runs.

The Cowboys scored three more runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Beavers have another doubleheader against New Mexico Highlands this afternoon, starting at noon in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
