MSU baseball defeats Northwestern College, 11-2

TUCSON, AZ – The Minot State baseball team (4-6) let it fly on Monday night in an 11-2 victory over Northwestern College (6-8).

The Beavers set the tone early by posting four runs in the top of the second inning. Senior Geordie McDougall got Minot State on the board with an RBI single, and junior Trevaun Smith did the same two at-bats later.

Finally, senior Michael Borst brought in another two runs with a single of his own to cap off the four-run stretch. Now leading 5-2 in the top of the sixth inning, the Beavers added another three runs to their total and ultimately cruised to the 11-2 win.

Minot State recorded 16 hits to Northwestern’s 13. Borst led the charge by going 4-for-4 at the plate and tallied three RBIs. At the mound, junior Aaron Kern shouldered most of the load with four innings pitched, a pair of strikeouts and five hits allowed.

Next up for Minot State is a pair of games on Wednesday. The Beavers will take on fellow NSIC competitor Southwest Minnesota State at 10 a.m., followed by an exhibition game against Rainy River Community College at 4 p.m.
