MSU baseball caps Arizona trip with 13-2 win over Nebraska Wesleyan

Tucson, Ariz. — The Minot State baseball team concluded its road trip to Arizona with a convincing 13-2 win over Nebraska Wesleyan Thursday in Tucson, Arizona.

The victory marks the fifth consecutive win for the Beavers and their fifth straight game scoring 10 or more runs.

Wyatt Schlosser came out swinging in the first inning, putting himself in great scoring position with a triple. A sacrifice fly from Michael Borst brought Schlosser home for the first run of the game. Nebraska Wesleyan tied up the game in the bottom of the first with three singles.

The Beavers took the lead back in the second when Ryley Humrighouse scored on an RBI groundout by Tyler Wiltshire after reaching on a double.

The Prairie Wolves came back to tie the game in the fourth inning, scoring their final run of the game on an RBI single.

Mason Gifford drove in a pair of runs with a two-RBI triple as Minot State scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead. The Beavers then knocked in four runs in the seventh off an RBI single by Gifford, RBI double from Schlosser and a two-RBI single by Borst.

Throughout the game, Borst knocked in a team-high five RBIs while Schlosser led Minot State in runs with three. Six Beavers recorded two hits apiece.

On the mound, starter Zach Newman threw three innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three batters.Reilly O’Rourke threw three innings in relief while striking out five batters while Matt Sartwell struck out two batters in one inning of work.

Up next, Minot State opens NSIC play next week, as the Beavers travel to St. Paul, Minnesota, to take on Concordia-St. Paul in a doubleheader Wednesday, March 20, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
