MSU men handle Winona State, 87-72

WINONA, Minn. — Senior David Akibo scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebound as the Minot State men’s basketball team picked up its second road win of the season Friday, defeating Winona State 87-72.

Four Beavers finished in double figures with Akibo: Kyle Beisch (18), Dorian Aluyi (13), Max Cody (11) and Kody Dwyer (10). Drake Jeffries just missed out with nine points.

MSU (11-15, 6-11 NSIC) shot 63.8 percent from the floor and held Winona State (10-13, 7-10 NSIC) to 45.2 percent.

The Beavers will go for the road weekend sweep against Upper Iowa at 5:30 p.m. this evening.

MSU women fall victim to Winona State’s 3-pointers

WINONA, Minn. — The Minot State women’s basketball team fell behind 25-11 after the first quarter to Winona State and never recovered.

The Warriors (12-9, 10-7 NSIC) cruised to a 84-46 home win Friday evening over the Beavers (10-13, 5-12 NSIC). Winona State went 15-for-28 behind the three-point arc with Allie Pickrain making seven triples on her way to a game-high 23 points.

Mariah Payne was the only Beaver to reach double figures with 11 points.

MSU shot 34 percent from the floor.

The Beavers will look to bounce back against Upper Iowa at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
