Magi basketball suffers 90-61 loss to Jamestown
JAMESTOWN — After keeping pace in the first half, a strong second half by Jamestown (17-0, 16-0 West Region) ultimately put away the Minot High School boys basketball team (10-6, 10-6 West Region) and handed the Magicians a 90-61 road loss.
The Magi held their own early on in hostile territory, as the Blue Jays clung to a slim 23-18 lead at the midway point of the first half. Minot shot 15-for-32 (46.9 percent) from the field in the half but ultimately entered the break down 49-37.
That’s when Jamestown pulled away thanks to some stout defense. The Blue Jays held the Magi to just 7-for-29 (25.9 percent) shooting in the second half and outscored them 41-24 to secure the 90-61 victory.
Sophomore Deonte’ Martinez finished with a team-high 13 points in the loss, while junior Jaxon Gunville scored 11 points and senior Alex Schimke recorded nine points.
Next up for Minot is a road game against Turtle Mountain Community High School on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
