Two first-half goals leads MSU soccer to a road win

MARSHALL, Minn. — The Minot State women’s soccer team got back to its winning ways Sunday afternoon on the road with seniors Haley Berryman and Andrea Franco each scoring in a 2-0 shutout win over Southwest Minnesota State.

Berryman broke a five-game goalless drought when she scored her sixth goal of the season nine minutes into the contest.

Franco followed that up with her first goal of the season eight minutes later.

Sophomore Jordyn Cook assisted both goals.

MSU goalie Erin Rafferty made three saves in 83 minutes before getting subbed out for backup Mackenzie Long.

With the win, the Beavers (7-4-3, 5-4-2 NSIC) find themselves in seventh place in the conference standings. They are two points back of fourth place, and hosting a first round NSIC Tournament game. But, they are also only three points ahead of ninth place U-Mary, fighting to make the postseason.

Four games remain in the conference season. MSU will host three of them at Herb Parker Stadium, beginning with two games this weekend. First, the Beavers face Upper Iowa (3-9-2, 2-7-2 NSIC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Winona State (6-5-1, 6-4-1 NSIC) on Sunday at noon.

MSU also has a non-conference home game against the University of Jamestown scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
