MHS Athletic Hall of Fame Induction to take place Saturday

The Minot High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction is scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 29, at Magic City Campus. Recognition will take place in the commons starting with a social at 5 p.m and the dinner and induction ceremony at 6 p.m.

Six former student athletes will be honored at the event as well as all boys and girls state champion swimming and diving teams.

Those being inducted into the Hall of Fame include Zac Elgie, Matthew Lowe, Jennifer Lowe, Melanie Funk, Dagney Knutson and Danielle Luetzen.

Elgie was a member of the football and basketball teams from 2005-2008 and was a three-year letter winner in each sport and served as a team captain for two years He was also a member of the baseball team and was a four year letter winner. Some of the football accomplishments include: West Region Player of the Year, All-WDA First Team (football, basketball and baseball), Academic All-Conference (football, basketball and baseball), All-State First Team (baseball).

Matthew Lowe was a member of the Minot High boys swimming and diving team from 1999-2004. Lowe helped lead the team to six straight state championships while being a seven time individual state champion and eight time relay state champion. He is the current school record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. He is a current state record holder in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. He was a 10-time letter winner: six for swimming, three for soccer and one for track and field.

Jennifer Lowe was a six-year letter winner for swimming and one-year letter winner for soccer in her time involved in Minot High School athletics from 1993-1998. She helped the swimming and diving team to four state championships while earning six relay championships and one individual championship.

Funk was a member of the cross country and track and field teams from 2004-2008. In cross country, she had four WDA Championship wins and two state championships. In track and field, Funk took first in the 3200-meter race from 2004 to 2008 and took first in the 1600 race from 2005-2007.

Knutson was part of five state championship teams from 2005-2009. She is a 10-time individual high school state champion, holds 11 Minot High School records, five individual state records and was a two-time national high school female swimmer of the year.

Luetzen was a three-year letter winner in volleyball at Minot High School and competed from 2004-2008. She earned all-state honors in 2006 and 2007. She also earned four letters in basketball and was named to the All-WDA Team in 2008.

The annual Homecoming Parade will be held Friday, Sept. 28, followed by the induction ceremony at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are not required for the ceremony.
