Sabre Dogs pick up series win, edge Sodbusters 9-6

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs picked up their first-ever series victory with a 9-6 win over the Hastings Sodbusters. The matchup completed a three-game set between the two teams.

Ryan Miller got his second start of the season for Souris Valley and struck out four Hastings hitters on his way to earning the win.

Marcelo Terrazas earned the save in four innings of relief, including pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the 9th inning to preserve the win.

Jack Schuler went 3-for-5 at the plate with 3 RBIs and Kam Armstrong backed him up with 2 RBIs in a 2-for-4 effort.

Schuler opened the scoring in the top of the second, when his single to right field, brought Armstrong home. The Sabre Dogs fell behind early after a four-run third inning by Hastings, but tied the game with three runs of their own an inning later.

Souris Valley built their lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, a run in the sixth, and two more in the eighth. Hastings threatened with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sabre Dogs defense held on for the 9-6 victory.

The Sabre Dogs will return to Minot for their inaugural home opener at Corbett Field on today.
