MSU’s Demko Third after opening round

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Alexandra Demko shot an opening-round 76 and Kira Dereniwsky fired an 80 and Minot State is in third place after day one of the Winona State Invitational on Monday at Stallion Mountain Golf Club.

Demko opened with a four-over par 76 and is currently in third place in the medalist chase, while Dereniwsky is tied for ninth place after shooting an 80.

Minot State is tied with Winona State for third place in the team standings with a score of 324. West Alabama leads the field with a score of 308, while Montana State-Billings is in second place after posting a 319.

Katherine McGlenen, who finished fifth at the Minot Junior Golf Association Collegiate Invitational over the weekend, shot an 82 and is currently tied for 15th place overall.

Kaitlyn Hill and Miriam Dumes rounded out the scoring group for the Beavers as Hill shot an 86 and is tied for 27th place and Dumes posted a 92 and is tied for 39th overall.

Makensy Arlien, who is competing individually, had an excellent opening round as she shot a 79 and is tied for seventh place overall.

Jessica Simants and Lindsey Duben also competed individually for the Beavers. Simants shot an 85 and is tied for 25th place, while Duben carded a 104 and is 46th overall.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes of play.
