MSU hockey outshoots Utah 65-9 in dominating 9-0 victory
Saturday’s 9-0 victory was nothing short of domination for the Minot State hockey team.
The Beavers outshot the University of Utah 65-9 and outscored the Utes 7-0 in the third period to walk away with a win at Maysa Arena.
“We talked about finishing off plays at the second intermission,” MSU coach Wade Regier said. “Our guys were a little tight at that point and when you’re not playing your best offensively, you press a little bit. The key difference in that period was our work ethic. We created so many turnovers that led to goals. We maybe didn’t play our best against Bottineau Thursday, so we wanted to stay disciplined and finish off plays tonight.”
MSU didn’t allow Utah to record a single shot on goal in the third period, holding a 29-0 shot advantage.
“It certainly was our best defensive period of the year,” Regier said. “We controlled the tempo and there was stretches were I’m not sure if we made a mistake. That’s how efficient we were. We just kept pushing things to the outside and forced them to take longer shots. Defensively the boys played really well.”
Austin Yano and Austin Kilian each had two goals for the Beavers (12-0-1), while Morgen Martelle, Derrick Brooks, Rhett Lough, Paul O’Connor and Dylan Gejdos each scored for MSU.
The Beavers are back in action at 8 p.m. Thursday in a road matchup against Arizona State.
