Minot State volleyball swept by Winona State

WINONA, Minn. — The Minot State volleyball team fell in three sets (7-25, 12-25, 6-25) at No. 15 Winona State on Friday night in Winona, Minn.

The loss drops the Beavers to 5-21 (1-16 NSIC) on the season while the Warriors improve to 18-7 (12-5 NSIC).

Hayley Swain led Minot State with four kills while Shelby Spuller and Emily Falldorf added three kills apiece.

Kelsey Dewulf paced the offense with 11 assists while Karli Koza led the Beaver defense with six digs.

Minot State returns to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they travel to take on No. 25 Upper Iowa. Links to live stats and video are available on msubeavers.com.

MSU’s Lopez stands out in intrasquad scrimmage

Freshman Joseph Lopez capped a huge Green team comeback with a fall in the final match leading his team to a 33-31 victory over the Red team in Minot State’s intrasquad dual on Friday in the Minot State Dome.

Lopez pinned Anthony Raupp at 1:55 to cap the comeback which saw the Green team fall behind 21-0 after the opening five matches of the dual.

The Red team jumped out to the 21-0 lead sparked by falls from Tanner Crissler and Oscar Nellis.

The Green team began the comeback when Jeseb Mogen posted a 13-6 win over Shane Williams, Jr. in a 141-pound bout. Zach Berry followed with an 8-4 win over Luis Lopez at 157 pounds to cut the lead to 21-6.

Brandt Ackerman notched a 15-1 win over Anthony Battle at 157 pounds giving the Red team a 25-6 advantage at the halfway point of the dual.

Tyler Sharron cut the lead to 25-12 with a fall win over Frank Straka at 3:11 in a 165 pound match.

Parker Osterman upped the lead to 28-12 with a tightly contested 5-3 victory over Joshua Juarez in a 174 pound match.

Keegan Berry, Briley Crissler and Mitchell Eull posted back-to-back-to-back wins for the Green team to trim the lead to 28-24.

Marco Antonio Ramirezlazos righted the ship for the Red team with a 9-5 win over Liam Hayden, but Jake Belland defeated Vincent Ebanks 4-0 and Lopez pinned Raupp to close the match giving the Green team the victory.

Minot State will open the season on Wednesday (Nov. 8) against Mary at 7 p.m. in the Minot State Dome.
