The Minot Chamber Chorale is seeking singers for the upcoming season. Rehearsals will start in early September. The chorale, founded more than 40 years ago, is the only mixed community choir in Minot. Singers make a commitment to perform in the four concerts each season including a Fall Pops Concert, Renaissance Christmas Feast, Classical Works Concert and Spring Sampler Concert & Ice Cream Social. Minot Area Theatrical Society is holding auditions for the play "Elvis Has Left The Building" Friday and Saturday at The Vegas Motel in the conference/board room by the pool from 5:30 to 7 p.m. both nights. The International Peace Garden will host the 10th International Country Gospel Festival on Saturday and Sunday. The festival and food concessions will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is a free will offering. A church service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, with the festival and food concessions resuming from 1 to 6 p.m.
The International Peace Garden will host a quilting show on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Among the vendors and items featured are: the 183 Trading Company's button collection for sale, swap and display includes button jewelry and more; Melinda Snell's quilts featuring flowers, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, coffee, wine and grapes. Designs are from watercolor paintings of Sonja Taylor; Pat Miller's quilts and vintage antique sewing machines.
The public is invited to celebrate 125 years of history at North Dakota's 125th Celebration Party on the Capitol Mall in Bismarck on Saturday. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and run throughout the day. Performances scheduled include Watford City native Jessie Veeder and Dakota Air.
The annual Festival on Main will be held this year on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Minot. The event is sponsored by the Downtown Business and Professional Association of Minot and Visit Minot and is free to the public. Daytime activities include the Northern Outlaw Wrestling wrestlers, sponsored in part by Coors Light, carnival and inflatable games, Dakota Cruisers car show, bingo, food and craft vendors, and Dizzy the Clown. There will be two historic Minot slide shows at the Taube Museum of Art along with children's activities, Minot Air Force Base K-9 dog demonstration, FunTyme Karaoke, dance and band performances, in-store events and sidewalk sales, and more. The Downtown Shuttle service will be available during the day. Booth spaces for vendors are still available and an application can be downloaded at (downtownminot.com). The evening fun follows with a street dance starting at 7 p.m. with local bands Guy & a Girl, followed by Soul Shine from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. You must be 21 and older to attend, and the cost is $10. The IllumNight 5K Run starts in Downtown Minot that same evening at 9:14 p.m.
The Sibyl Center in Stanley will present "Take Time for Tea," a program on the health benefits of tea, on Saturday, Aug. 23, at noon. The program aims to increase awareness of tea as a healthy beverage choice, helping attendees gain knowledge of tea varieties and learn which teas are considered helpful in treating different illnesses. Sharon Smith, Mountrail County Extension agent, will present the program designed by the North Dakota State University Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. Teas from around the world will be tasted and lunch will be served, pairing foods with teas. Suggested donation is $8. Reservations are required for the event by calling 628-2670. Tables are available for groups of seven.
Mouse River Players Community Theatre will hold auditions for "Plain Hearts," a musical directed by Carlen Gilseth, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Arlene Theater, 115-1st St. SE.
