TIOGA Billy D. Runnels, 48, Tioga, was pronounced dead on the scene of a head-on collision on N.D. Highway 40 about two miles north of Tioga Monday at 7 p.m., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The other driver, Tayler W. Kittleson, 21, Fairview, Mont., was injured.
Kittleson was driving a 2003 GMC pickup truck southbound on the highway when he crossed the center line and struck the 2013 Ford pickup truck driven by Runnels, which was headed northbound. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt and their vehicles each spun counter clockwise.
Kittleson's vehicle came to rest on its passenger side on the roadway and Runnel's vehicle came to rest in the east ditch on its wheels. Kittleson was airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot to be treated for injuries suffered in the incident.
