Minot's first Run or Dye 5K race on Saturday was a rousing success, judging by the thousands of runners who took part in the event. Later in the day at shopping locations and elsewhere in Minot, hundreds of runners could still be seen proudly wearing their clothes from the race, complete with brightly colored dye powder that covered clothes, arms, legs and faces alike.
The 3.1 mile run, which snaked through several streets in northwest Minot, was held in conjunction with Minot State University's ongong centennial celebration. It wasn't so much a competitive 5K race as it was a chance to socialize, get some exercise and get painted, all at the same time in the name of fun.
The event was part of a host of activities going on at MSU that day, which included music and an MSU football game Saturday night. Again, judging by the more than 5,000 runners who participated and the good crowd at the football game later in the day, the day's events certainly were a success. The Run or Dye 5K should continue to be part of events at MSU in the future.
