The Department of Veterans Affairs Transportation Networks is in need of volunteer van drivers.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Disabled American Veterans sponsors a transportation network to take area veterans to medical appointments at the Minot Air Force Base VA Clinic and the Fargo VA Medical Center.
A van based in Minot takes veterans to the Minot AFB Clinic one morning a week. A van based at Stanley takes veterans from Stanley, Minot, Towner, Rugby, and other en route locations to the Fargo facility. The trips to Fargo are overnight. VA provides lodging, lunch vouchers at the VA Medical Center cafeteria, and dinner. There are no reimbursable expenses.
The program is completely dependent on volunteer drivers, and there is currently a critical need for more drivers for both routes. These are voluntary, unpaid positions that help ensure area veterans have access to a VA medical facility.
A person does not have to be a veteran to drive one of the vans. Anyone wishing to help area veterans get to their VA medical appointments can contact Kathy Holte at the Ward County Veterans Service Office at 857-6492 or visit the office in the Ward County Courthouse for more details.
