BISMARCK (AP) - The North Dakota University System says a public notice was not required for meetings involving state Board of Higher Education members and university leaders.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that three board members met individually with the state's college and university presidents Wednesday in Bismarck.
University System spokeswoman Linda Donlin says a quorum of the board was not present, so no public notice was required. She says the purpose of the meetings was to discuss the future of the university system.
The board is buying out Chancellor Hamid Shirvani's contract after months of turmoil that included findings by Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem that the board violated open meeting laws.
The next Board of Higher Education meeting is June 20 in Bottineau.
