Minot's annual Fill The Boot fundraising campaign continues through today, as local firefighters raise money to contribute to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
People wishing to donate can find Minot firefighters at the intersection of 20th Avenue Southwest and 16th Street Southwest, and at the intersection of Third Street Southeast and East Burdick, right outside the Ward County Courthouse.
Last year, firefighters raised $38,907, which was a record for the local group. The money helped send 48 children to summer camp, helped fund MDA?research and paid for 1,296 flu shots. The goal this year locally is $42,000. Last year across the nation, firefighters raised $25.2 million.
Local fundraising efforts continue to be successful, despite the 2011 Souris River flood's devastating impact on the finances of thousands of area residents. The Fill The Boot campaign has been well-received by area residents, and we expect that to continue this year. So, if you see a fireman hanging around an intersection today with a boot in hand, we encourage you to stop safely and drop some loose change or a few bucks in the boot.
