Darrell Leo Fredrickson, 65, of Cheyenne, Wyo., passed away in Cheyenne on Sept. 29, 2012, from complications of heart disease.
He was born on March 10, 1947, in Powers Lake, N.D., the fourth son of the late Julius and Bertha Fredrickson. He was raised and educated in McGregor, N.D., and graduated from McGregor High School in 1965. He was married to Arlene Hystad in 1966. They later divorced. He was married to Carlee Woodward for a short period of time and they had a son, Tyson.
Leo loved to drive and learned how to drive a grain truck at an early age on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army and spent two years in Field Artillery in Germany. After his discharge he returned to the family farm, but soon realized that farming was not for him.
He was an over the road truck driver for many years and also worked in the Williston oil fields and also oil fields in Bakersfield, Calif. He kind of lost his way for a while, but in his later years had made great strides at living a normal and sober life. He was helped greatly by the Veterans Administration and his close friends in Cheyenne. At the time of his death, Leo was a transport driver for Professional Transport, Inc; transporting train crew personnel.
Leo is survived by: brothers, Les (Sharon) of Sidney, Mont., Allan (Sandy) of Kalispell, Mont., Jim (Pat) of Lewistown, Mont. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved uncle and aunt, Mickey and Clara Smith, of West Fargo, N.D.
The family is making final arrangements.
There will be a burial service: Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Scandia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Battleview.
Cremation of remains was handled by Schrader Funeral Home of Cheyenne, Wyo.
