Fred Rude

Fred Rude, 92, Kenmare, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in a Minot nursing home.

Fred was born Jan. 13, 1921, a son of Olaf and Emma (Bratlien) Rude, on a farm near Lunds Valley. He was raised and educated in Lunds Valley, graduating from Lunds Valley High School in 1939.

Fred began his working career at Becker's Elevator in Des Lacs where he was employed until 1947, when he began his career with John Deere working as a mechanic and parts man.

On June 17, 1951, Fred was united in marriage to Edna Ege. The couple made their home in Kenmare, where they raised their three children. In addition to working at John Deere, Fred and Edna owned and operated the Kenmare Theatre for 10 years. Fred retired from John Deere after 29 years of service in 1976. They also enjoyed traveling south for the winters. Edna died on Nov. 7, 2007. Following her death, Fred continued to live in Kenmare at his home until Jan. 1, 2013, when he entered Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Fred was very charming and witty and always made a great first impression. He enjoyed woodworking, jigsaw puzzles and gardening. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church of Kenmare.

Fred is survived by: children, Leah Ann (Wally Jensen) Charnetzki, Kenmare, Gary (special friend Dianne Huff) Rude, Kenmare, and Sandy (Gary) Elton, Gillette, Wyo.; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Nelson, Brian (Briana) Charnetzki, and Jen (Cody) Olsson; great-grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea Nelson; Maddie Olsson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; his four siblings; and a beloved dog, Snowy.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m., in Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.

Burial: Will take place at a later date in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.

Visitation: Monday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
