Students in Minot High School’s new Junior ROTC marksmanship program practice their shooting skills with air rifles on Jan. 18.
The Minot High School Junior ROTC have received a grant from the National Rifle Association Grant Foundation to start a marksmanship program. The grant paid for $11,248 in equipment for the program, which is open to all student members of the Junior ROTC.
Capt. Scott Evans, Junior ROTC instructor, said the program is one of the safest youth sports available to schools and teaches discipline, responsibility, respect for hard work, control and respect for others.
Evans said eventually students with the program will compete against other Junior ROTC programs in the state. Students will also be able to compete for marksmanship scholarships.
