Roger Van Berkom, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Minot, died Nov. 29, 2012, surrounded by family in a Port Charlotte, Fla., hospice facility.
Roger was born in Powers Lake on Sept. 8, 1938, to John and Esther Van Berkom. He was raised on the family farm and attended Minot State College. He enjoyed a career in health care as a medical technologist who worked in hospitals in Crosby and Minot, and later managed and owned Medical Diagnostics Laboratory in Minot.
In 1994 he retired to Florida. Roger enjoyed his hobby of making and selling golf clubs for several years, and spending time with friends and family.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Darlene.
He is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Linda; and sons, Trevor Van Berkom (Joanne), of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Tyler Van Berkom (Jill), of Seattle, Wash.; and daughters, Beata Van Berkom, of Saskatoon, Sask., and Naomi Van Berkom, of Biggar, Sask. Also surviving are sisters: Adonna (Roy) Thorlaksen, of Powers Lake; Yvonne Schreiner, of Minot; Lupe (Bob) Obert, of Stanley; Barbara (Ray) Zeena, of Estero, Fla.; and his brother, Lowell (Leanne), of Shoreview, Minn.; as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roger also leaves behind his faithful Boston Terrier, Reilly.
A memorial service will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, donations are suggested to local hospice organizations.
