Robert A. Schultz, 86, Minot, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Robert Arland Schultz was born Feb. 21, 1926, the son of Herbert C. and Clara L. (Potvin) Schultz, on a farm near Willow City. He was raised on his maternal grandparents' farm in Ostby Township of Bottineau County, near Willow City, until his third grade year, when he moved with his family to a farm two miles east and one mile north of Willow City. He was educated at Notre Dame Academy in Willow City, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, in 1943.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army in November 1944. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Philipines and Japan and was honorably discharged Dec. 4, 1946.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Minot Business College and graduated from there in 1949. He began his employment with Western Auto Parts in Minot in 1950, and became part owner of Western Auto Parts and United Auto Parts in 1972. He retired in 1989.
Robert married Hulda E. Henne May 15, 1950, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. They made their home in rural Minot. From this union, six children were born: Richard, Teresa, Lynette, Lori, John and Jana. Robert and Hulda started wintering in Orange Beach, Ala., in 1992, and had continued to spend time there for many years.
He was a member of the Minot Moose Lodge, Minot Elks Lodge, and the Willow City American Legion. He was a former member of the Nedrose School Board, and was a 4-H leader.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing billiards, and woodworking. He completed woodworking projects for each of his family members as well as cutting out all the wood name tags for the Sunshine Camps held in North Dakota.
Surviving family includes: wife of 62 years, Hulda, Minot; children, Richard (Kari) Schultz, Minot, Lynette Sanders, Minot, Lori (Jeff) Engleson, Bismarck, John (Val) Schultz, Lakeview, Minn., and Jana Schultz, Minot; grandchildren, Jason (Marie) Sanders, Matthew Sanders and Jenna (Jason) Kraft, Bryan and Kyle Engleson, Michael Schultz,and Paul and Molly Buettner; great-grandchildren, Grace Sanders, Zoe Sanders and Allie Kraft; brothers, Jerry (Colleen) Schultz, Minot, and Jim (Laura) Schultz, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa "Teddy" Schultz; and sisters, Lauretta Manning and Rosemary Noll.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Nov. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Friday, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
