Johnny Nelson, 92, of Rolette, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Haaland Estates in Rugby. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at 10 a.m., in Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, with Pastor John Hasford officiating. Burial will follow at the Rolette Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday.
Johnny was born May 24, 1920, in Rolette, the son of Peter and Kathryn (Hankes) Nelson. He attended school in Wolf Creek and graduated from Rolette High School in 1940. On April 11, 1942, he entered the military and was honorably discharged on Oct. 11, 1945.
After returning home from the service, he began farming with his brother, Oscar, in 1945. In 1982, Johnny retired from farming.
Johnny was a member of the Detham-Armstrong VFW Post 194 for 67 years. He also loved playing cards, visiting family and friends, bowling and puzzles.
Johnny is survived by: nephews, Gary (Deborah) Nelson and William Rose, both of Rolette, and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Oscar, Mary, Anna Thomas, Nels, Harry, Alice Rose and Clara Melbostad.
