Olympics without wrestling?

February 13, 2013

Let the controversy begin. In something of a surprise vote, the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday dropped wrestling from the list of sports to be held at the 2020 Summer Olympic Game....

I guess to be honest pole dancing is more to my liking than wrestling. I'm not sure what they would call their moves on the pole but I bet it would be funny funny funny!!!

It's a pretty old gripe: today's Olympics have nothing to do with the spirit of the games organised over a century ago, which celebrated amateurism, peaceful competitiveness, and the physical potential of the human body. But like most everything under the sun related to sport, it's just become another marketing event.

Kind of like playing American music but eliminating American folk music.

We're gonna play rock and roll, but not Polk Salad Annie by Tony Joe White.

We aren't going to play American folk music anymore in America, just American rock and roll and country music only, no folk music at all, especially Canadian folk music, not gonna happen here in murka. No 'Edmund Fitzgerald' here in murka.

America without folk music? Not gonna happen.

I'm sure the IOC is looking for a competition that would attract more interest and viewers. Watching the Olympics is BORING. Watching Olympic wrestling is BORING X 2. Ugh

Oh, Locomotive, I didn't know that. And it is good to know. Hopefully, it will be a tradition that will continue.

KneeAwn's post is great: "women's pole dancing" - hee hee hee.

Wrestling was a sport revered in ancient Greece. I can't imagine any Olympic Games, first played under Mount Olympus, that wouldn't include the fine sport of wrestling.

From ESPN . com, Jim Cable 2-12-13...

"This whole matter could be solved to everyone's satisfaction by simply replacing the modern pentathlon with the ancient pentathlon that was in the original Olympics B.C. That's because the ancient pentathlon consisted of the long jump, javelin, discus, a foot race and, yes, wrestling."

Pretty sad that the IOC is doing the double leg takedown on wrestling just so they can introduce another sport such as women's pole dancing. Golf has the Masters. Tennis has Wimbledon. Baseball has the World Series.....they have their pinnacle of sports. Why do they need the Olympics. The Olympics is the Super Bowl for amateur wrestlers. No the Royal Rumble IV doesn't count!
