Holiday meals were a blessing

Liz Kinlaw, Jessica Ackerman

Minot

Minot’s local churches, non-profit organizations, businesses, and community members came together once again on both Thanksgiving and Christmas Days to provide an afternoon for folks to enjoy a warm meal, respite, and holiday cheer.

Yes, holiday meals like this are not uncommon, but an experience so beautiful, inspiring, and worth witnessing is growing in Minot. Counting the two holidays, over 700 meals were served with the involvement of nearly 250 volunteers. Special thanks to Christ Lutheran Church for welcoming volunteers to take over the kitchen and dining hall to serve a home-style Thanksgiving dinner, and to the Grand Hotel whose chef and staff teamed with volunteers to create a banquet-level experience on Christmas Day. The “Minot Community Meal” initiative takes the rather simple act of visiting with others or sharing a meal and fills a person with connection and hope.

We’re certain that everyone who participated or attended was the beneficiary of something – food, conversation, a smile, a distraction, a gift, a connection, a purpose. Blessings to our community for coming together!
