Beware of ghouls and goblins tonight

The streets and sidewalks of the Magic City, some of them not all that well lit, will be visited tonight by ghouls and goblins.

There may even be a few pink unicorns mixed in with the usual scary trick-or-treaters this year. Oh, the fun that comes with Halloween.

Granted, it’s mostly for the kids. But what adult doesn’t like to watch year after year as the costumes get more clever and elaborate? Is it possible that kids are getting cuter with each new generation?

With little darlings in costume, preoccupied with their biggest holiday in mind, we remind drivers and homeowners to watch out for the little ones tonight.

For motorists, slow down. Especially on streets that aren’t normally as busy but are crawling with kids on Halloween. And remember, trick-or-treaters don’t all call it a night at the same hour. It’s not uncommon to see some of the stragglers still hard at it past 9 o’clock.

Homeowners should do their best to keep their properties well lit. Some homeowners who don’t play the candy give-away game keep their houses dark as a signal to the kids not to bother ringing the doorbell. That doesn’t always to the trick so be certain to keep your sidewalks, porches and entryways clear of tripping hazards -just in case.

Parents, consider accompanying your kids if they go trick-or-treating door to door, if only for your own peace of mind. Or, take in the many free festivities happening around town.

For the rest of us though, the reminder should be to dial back and enjoy the night.

But beware of the ghouls and goblins – and the cute kids in costume, especially pink unicorns. The latter just might make off with your heart.
