Celebrating 50 years

With today’s North Dakota State Fair Parade, young and old alike will line streets in Minot in celebration of the opening of the North Dakota State Fair in Minot. This year is the fair’s golden anniversary, and along with today’s festivities come another eight days of family entertainment.

“We’re celebrating 50 years of our state’s legendary history, culture and traditions,” said Gov. Jack Dalrymple, in a greeting from his office.

Fifty years ago, Gov. William Guy signed House Bill 620, declaring Minot the location for the official “North Dakota State Fair.”

The State Fair is North Dakota’s showcase of our people and our products. It’s also a place for family and friends to gather as well as meet new people.

The fair offers something for everyone – traditional favorites like bull riding, car races, horse pulls and ranch rodeos as well as thousands of agriculture exhibits and competitions, culinary and fine arts exhibits, commercial exhibitors, fair food, entertainment, a carnival and so much more.

Last year a total of 314,446 people went through the gates.

Year after year, many sponsors support the fair. The state of North Dakota pays for all the premiums that go to the state’s youth for their exhibits.

“How wonderful: a half century of Great, Big, Fun! It’s a grand time to recycle our old slogan, ‘It’s your Fair, so be there,” said Renee Korslien, fair manager.

“I encourage you to experience this award-winning event for yourself,” Dalrymple said.

The fair continues through Saturday, July 25.

We’ll see you at the State Fair.
