Ronald Grenier

Nov. 17, 1944 – Nov. 2, 2022

Ronald J Grenier,77, of Rolette, ND, passed away on November 2, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years and his 4 kids at their winter home in Mesa, AZ. Ron was born on November 17, 1944 to Lucien and Gladys Grenier in Rolla, ND. He resided in Thorne, ND on the homestead farm until the early 2000’s when they moved to Rolette, ND. Ron attended several different High Schools, Dunseith, ND being his last, after being kicked out of a few schools because of his mischievous ways. We are pretty sure he graduated, as his picture is hanging in the hallway of Dunseith. In 1960, Ron met the love of his life, Betty, and were married in 1964. Everyone dresses up for their anniversary, because only Ronny would get married on the night the goblins come out “Halloween.” They started a family and had four children, LaRon, Rory, Nicole, and Suzette, raising them on the farm. Ron was a force of nature, not only farming, but raising cattle on the homestead. He had a hobby body shop and collected old cars that he fixed up. In 1973, with a partner, he built the Wagon Wheel Lounge in Rolette, because he felt there was not a bar in town to bring a woman! In 1981 the local lumber yard was going to be shut down, so Ron decided to purchase that business. In the mid 80’s Ron found his long-time job of 36 years working as a crop adjuster. He most recently worked for Rain and Hail Insurance for 19 years. Ron’s hobbies included flying Cessna’s as early as in high school, hunting, cruising the countryside on the side- by – side ATV. He loved entertaining as the famous “Ron E Cash”. He played several instruments including piano, organ, guitar and trumpet. Even though he got kicked out of music class because he couldn’t read the music, he could play any instrument by ear. Ron was on the Board of Shell Valley Township, Board of director on the farmers Union, and Manager of the airport authority in Rolette. Last month he was working on the resurfacing of the paved runway. Anyone who knew Ron would know him as the free-spirited jokester always having fun and being the life of the party, living life to its fullest! He will not only be missed by his expanded friends in many places, but by the neighborhood dogs in the Sunland Village at their Mesa house. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucien and Gladys; sisters, Shirley Scott & LaVonne Aamodt. Ron is survived by his wife, Betty Grenier; four children, LaRon (Greg) Hahn, Rory Grenier, Nicole (Wally) Wines, and Suzette (Matt) Cunningham; 11 grandchildren, and soon to be 2 great-grandchildren. Sisters, Darlene Berube of Fargo ND and Julie Potter of Idaho Falls, ID and many nieces and nephews.
