Richard “Rick” Larson
Oct. 10, 1955-March 3, 2022
Rick Larson, 66, Glen-
burn, ND, passed away
Thursday, March 3, 2022,
in his home.
Richard Larson was
born October 10, 1955,
the son of Richard L. and
Patricia (Hastings) Larson,
in Minot, ND. Rick was
raised and educated in the
Glenburn area, graduating
from Glenburn High
School in 1974. He con-
tinued his education by
attending North Dakota
School of Science in
Wahpeton and received a
Welder’s certificate.
Rick started in Keene,
ND working for
Chadwick’s Welding after
college. Eventually Rick
moved back to Glenburn
and began working at
Steven’s Welding, and
then moved on to pump-
ing wells in the oilfield
around the
Glenburn/Maxbass area.
Even though he was work-
ing full time in the Wylie
field for about 30 years,
he still had a passion and
love for working on the
farm. Rick retired from
farming a few years ago,
but still looked forward to
harvest every year, help-
ing many of his friends.
In 1983, Rick married
Joni Burtch in Minot.
They were blessed with
two children, Katie and
Tanner. The couple later
divorced, but Rick contin-
ued to make his home in
Glenburn.
Rick met Jeri Long, and
her daughter Randi, later
in life, and they spent
several years building a
life together. They worked
alongside each other with
the food truck, all over the
area, up until the 2021
State Fair. Rick was so
proud of Randi and loved
her like his own. He was
so excited for her recent
wedding to her husband,
Dorian, and had a blast
dancing the night away
with so many friends and
family.
Rick never met anyone
that wasn’t a friend. You
would be hard-pressed to
go to a town in North
Dakota that didn’t know
“Ricky Dean” or “Fatboy”
(the nickname given in
high school that followed
him through life). He had
an infectious laugh that
could be recognized by
anyone that knew him,
even from another room.
Rick loved everyone, and
everyone loved him. He
was a loyal friend to so
many, and could always
be counted on to listen or
to help. He was always
good for a one-liner, a
laugh, a joke, or his in-
famous, “ta-he, ta-he” and
he always enjoyed a good
conversation.
He loved working, farm-
ing, Philadelphia Eagles
football, the color green,
Wednesday night poker,
and football games. He
was lucky enough to at-
tend Super Bowl XLI with
his son and
brother-in-law. When he
seldomly did take time off
from work, he loved to
take trips with friends and
family. He most recently
was able to enjoy his last
trip to Las Vegas for his
daughter Katie’s wedding.
Her husband, Jason,
proved to be a carbon
copy of himself, and they
formed a quick bond that
was broken way too soon.
Rick loved his family,
and especially his chil-
dren and grandchildren.
They were his pride and
joy. He was always quick
to show pictures of his
granddaughter and to
make sure whoever he
was talking to knew how
smart she was. He knew
she would do great things
in life. He loved to talk
about his grandson’s
sports accomplishments,
and how fast he was
growing. He joked often
about watching him in the
NFL someday. He will
leave a huge void in their
lives and be missed by so
many.
Rick was very active in
his community. He was a
member of the ambu-
lance, fire department,
city council, and town-
ship board. The entire
community, and all it en-
tailed, was family to him.
His loving family in-
cludes: children, Katie (Ja-
son) Robb and Tanner
Larson; grandchildren,
Matilynn Vollmer and
Walker Vollmer;
step-grandchildren, Nick,
Lily, and Blake Robb;
brother, Mike (Lisa) Lar-
son; sisters, Shelly (Blake)
Carlson and Nancy
(Curtis) Krueger; special
friend Jeri Long; and her
daughter, Randi (Dorian)
Cipriani and numerous
nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; and
grandparents, Joe and
Cora Larson, and Joe and
Violet Hastings;
