Doreen Rau passed
away Saturday, January
15, 2022, at the Benedic-
tine Living Center in
Garrison. Doreen JoAnn
Engan was born April 19,
1936, to Albin and Ida
(Swensrud) Engan, in
Blaisdell.
She attended school in
Plaza and graduated in
1954. On June 3, 1954,
she married Paul Rau in
Minot. Paul and Dorry
farmed and operated
Paul’s Excavating. They
were blessed with two
children, Dixon and Pen-
ney. Dixon passed away
in a motorcycle accident
in 1978. Her daughter and
son-in-law, Penney and
Bryan Wurtz, farmed and
worked in the excavating
business with Paul and
Dorry.
In the earlier years, Dor-
ry helped haul grain and
combine. Later on, she
opted to watch the
grandchildren and skip
the fieldwork. Kate and
Luke were very special to
Dorry. She liked to joke
they could always call
“1-800-Grandma” at any
time.
Dorry was always wil-
ling to give rides and
bring you a cup of coffee.
She was a good cook, en-
joyed people, and wel-
comed all who came into
her home. Dorry was a
very generous person; she
loved to give and receive
gifts. She was a member
of Hope Lutheran Church
in Makoti.
She is survived by
daughter, Penney (Bryan)
Wurtz, Plaza; grandchil-
dren, Kate (Dan) Ihle of
