Doreen “Dorry” Rau

Doreen Rau passed

away Saturday, January

15, 2022, at the Benedic-

tine Living Center in

Garrison. Doreen JoAnn

Engan was born April 19,

1936, to Albin and Ida

(Swensrud) Engan, in

Blaisdell.

She attended school in

Plaza and graduated in

1954. On June 3, 1954,

she married Paul Rau in

Minot. Paul and Dorry

farmed and operated

Paul’s Excavating. They

were blessed with two

children, Dixon and Pen-

ney. Dixon passed away

in a motorcycle accident

in 1978. Her daughter and

son-in-law, Penney and

Bryan Wurtz, farmed and

worked in the excavating

business with Paul and

Dorry.

In the earlier years, Dor-

ry helped haul grain and

combine. Later on, she

opted to watch the

grandchildren and skip

the fieldwork. Kate and

Luke were very special to

Dorry. She liked to joke

they could always call

“1-800-Grandma” at any

time.

Dorry was always wil-

ling to give rides and

bring you a cup of coffee.

She was a good cook, en-

joyed people, and wel-

comed all who came into

her home. Dorry was a

very generous person; she

loved to give and receive

gifts. She was a member

of Hope Lutheran Church

in Makoti.

She is survived by

daughter, Penney (Bryan)

Wurtz, Plaza; grandchil-

dren, Kate (Dan) Ihle of

Detroit Lakes, MN, and

Luke (Shelby) Wurtz of

Makoti;

great-grandchildren, Fer-

guson and Harvey Wurtz;

and many nieces and

nephews.

Preceded in death by

her parents; son Dixon

Rau; husband, Paul Rau;

sisters, Deloise Frink and

Darlene Maurer.

Funeral: Thursday,

January 20, 2022, at 2:00

p.m., at Langhans Funeral

Home, Parshall

Visitation: Thursday,

from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at

the funeral home

Interment: Hope Luth-

eran Cemetery, Makoti

Memorials are pre-

ferred to the Garrison

Benedictine Living

Center.
