Joseph M. Dostert
March 18, 1924-June 9, 2021
Joseph M. Dostert of
Minot, North Dakota,
passed away Wednesday,
June 9, 2021, at the age of
97 in Trinity Medical
Center in Minot.
Joseph was born on
March 18, 1924, to
Anthony and Rosena
(Schmitz) Dostert at the
family farm near Burling-
ton, North Dakota. He was
raised and educated in
Lonetree and graduated
from Lonetree High
School in 1942. A farmer
before being drafted into
the U.S. Army in 1949, he
served in Japan at the end
of WWII. Following his
service, he was
discharged and returned
to North Dakota.
Joseph married Patricia
Carlson in Des Lacs on
June 10, 1950. He was
drafted again in No-
vember of 1950, and
served in the Korean War
before being honorably
discharged in 1952.
Joseph and Patricia
moved to Fargo, where he
attended North Dakota
State University and gra-

engineering. After gra-

civil engineer took him to
Rockford, Illinois, Grand
Forks, North Dakota, and
eventually Minot. He
worked for Sunstrand
Aviation, the Grand Forks
Air Force Base, Minot Air
Force Base, and Rivet
Mile before formally retir-
ing from there in De-

Joseph found many
ways to enjoy his long re-

woodworker who crafted
birdhouses, clocks, furni-

treasures to the loved
ones that received them.
He was an avid coin col-
lector who gifted com-
memorative state quarter
books to his friends and
family. He was a dedicat-
ed walker, averaging two
miles a day at the North
Hill soccer complex, or
the Town and Country
Mall, well into his
nineties. He loved work-
ing in his yard, fixing
things in his garage, solv-
ing sudoku puzzles, mak-
ing pickles, baking pies,
whipping up batches of
his famous fudge, and was
a loyal Minnesota Twins
Fan.
After 64 years of
marriage, Patricia passed
away on January 30, 2015.
Joseph was blessed to
enjoy the comfort of the
home he lived in for 21
years, right until the end,
and until recently with
his beloved cat Sophie.
He was a proud member
of St. John the Apostle
Catholic Church for over
