Janice “Jan” Tomlinson,

80, Benedict, passed away

on Friday, June 11, 2021

at her home

Jan Carroll Borgen Tom-

linson was born July 12,

1940 in Bismarck Hospital

to Morris and Esther (Nel-

son) Borgen.

Jan was baptized, con-

firmed and married in St.

Olaf Luthern Church at

Turtle Lake, ND. She at-

tended grade school at

Greatstone #4, a

one-room school with 8

grades. She graduated in

1958.

Jan worked as a Switch

Board operator and Desk

Clerk at Leland Parker

Hotel before she moved to

Bismarck. There she

worked for Q & R Clinic

as Swithchboard Opera-

tor. Then she moved to

Denver CO and worked

for Halamar Electronics as

a Blue Print Operator

(classified materials).

Upon her return to ND,

Jan met Allen Tomlinson.

They were united in mar-

riage on February 5, 1961.

Of this union 6 children

were born: Randy, Lisa,

Cari, Royce, Lola and

Morris Chad. Jan was a

stay at home mom until

all six children were in

school.

Jan then re-entered the

work force, working for JI

Electric Company as a re-

ceptionist and pricing

clerk for one year. She en-

tered Civil Service at John

Moses Air Force Hospital,

downtown Minot where

she worked 4 years as

switchboard operator. Jan

was then transferred to

Minot Air Force Base and

worked as a clerk in

Housing for 2 years then

as an appointment clerk at

Base Hospital until John

Moses Hospital closed.

Allen and Jan bought

the Hitching Post Bar

which they owned and

operated for five years.

When they sold the bar,

she went to work at Base

Weather Radar Services

for several years. Jan sold

Avon for 33 years under

Dorathy Jensen. Her most

recent job was as a Quali-

ty Service Provider

through the state of North

Dakota for 3 years. Jan re-

tired in the fall of 2008.

Jan took pride in her

cooking, as did her fami-

ly. It was a gift she en-

joyed sharing with others

anytime the opportunity

arose. Grandma Jan’s

Tacos were a spotlight on

the menu always; Borscht

soup, fried fish and

numerous other dishes

were her specialties. She

was renowned for the

many beautiful quilts she

made for children,

grandchildren and

great-grandchildren, as

well as extended family

and friends.

Janice was preceded in

death by: her parents, her

sister Karen Theusch, and

her grandson Taylor Allen

Flory.

She is survived by: her

loving, devoted husband

of 60 years, Allen Tomlin-son; children Randy Tom-

linson, Lisa Tomlinson,

Cari Tomlinson, Royce

Tomlinson, Lola (Abby)

Tomlinson, Chad (Chela)

Tomlinson; Sister, Edith

Lelm; grandchildren,

Jan’s Celebration of Life

Service will be at St. Olaf

Lutheran Church in Tur-

tle Lake on Monday, June

21, 2021 at 10 am. The

service will be lives-

treamed for the public to

view and can be accessed
