Dennis Bergstrom
April 4, 1942-April 28, 2021
Dennis “Denny”
Bergstrom, 79, formerly of
Plaza, died Wednesday,
April 28, 2021, at his
home in Bismarck. Also
known at times as Dennis
the Menace, Dennis was a
hellion with a heart of
gold who used to en-
courage people to call him
“that damn Denny
Bergstrom.”
Denny was born April
4, 1942, in Minot to Clif-
ford and Esther (Lovdahl)
Bergstrom. He was raised
on the family farm
northwest of Plaza and
graduated from Dakota
Lutheran Academy in
1960. Dennis completed
his bachelor’s degree at
Minot State College.
Denny met the love of
his life, Sandra Borgers,
when she attended a
dance at Dakota Lutheran.
Denny’s friends claim that
Sandy spent a lot of time
loitering near Dakota
Lutheran after her violin
lessons while Sandy
maintains that every time
her school let out, there
was Denny waiting to pick
her up in his ’57 Chevy.
The lovebirds were united
in marriage on August 2,
1963. Together they had
two children: daughter,
Kristin Jo and son, Clin-
ton Josh.
From the age of 13, un-
til he retired in 2005, Den-
ny spent long summer
days working on the fami-
ly farm, first with his fa-
ther and later with his
children and grandchil-
dren. Dennis was a
well-known farmer who
was proud to be an early
innovator of no-till farm-
ing in the area.
Throughout his life,
Dennis was active in
clubs and organizations.
In college he was a
member of Mu Sigma Tau
fraternity. He was a
member of the Elks in
Minot and the Jaycees in
Plaza. He served on the
Plaza Farmers Union
Board for 10 years and on
the Mountrail County Soil
Conservation Board for 25
years.
Denny had an adven-
turous and inquiring spir-
it. Whether he was travel-
ing around the U.S. with
Sandy or reading books
from the comfort of his
La-Z Boy, Dennis loved to
learn about the world.
Along his life’s journey he
met numerous people,
making life-long friends,
and greatly enjoying the
adventure.
His smile, wit, and
larger-than-life laughter
will be greatly missed by
his family and friends.
Dennis is survived by:
