Ronald ‘Ron’ Sutter

On Monday, January
25, 2021, Ronald “Ron” C.
Sutter, loving husband
and father passed away at
the age of 70.
Ronnie was born June
24, 1950 in Minot, ND to
William ‘Bill’ and
Florence (Johnson) Sutter.
He attended Sawyer Pub-
lic School and Minot
Business College. Ron
grew up working at farms
in the New Rockford area
where he made lifelong
friends with the Anderson
families. After school,
Ron was employed at the
Velva Coal Mine. He met
and married Kate Hem-
phill on June 13, 1975.
They made their home
outside of Sawyer and
had three children. When
the mine closed, Ron took
a few different jobs until
he could get his family
back to Sawyer. Ron set-
tled into work at Headwa-
ters in Underwood until
his retirement. He loved
his job. After the kids left
home, Ron & Kate moved
to Washburn where he
could be close to work.
They made their home
on the Missouri River
spending countless hours
pontooning and fishing.
They began traveling
often, visiting many states
and Mexico. The past few
winters were enjoyed in
Arizona with friends.
Ronnie enjoyed being out-
doors, having beers with
his pals, golfing, and
watching NDSU football.
Ron was a legendary sto-
ryteller. He always had a
smile on his face and a
joke to tell. He was a quiet
man never wanting atten-
tion but always willing to
help. He supported his
kids in every sport, extra-
curricular activity, and
life event. Ron was a
member of St. John’s
Lutheran Church in
Underwood. He also held
memberships to the
Sawyer Lions Club and
United Mine Workers of
America. He will be
missed beyond measure
by all those who were
blessed to share in his
life.
Ron’s family includes:
his loving wife of 45
years, Kate Sutter, Wash-
burn, ND, his kids Karl
Sutter (Angie Jares), Underwood, ND, Sarah (Mark) Feist, Hazen, ND (honorary grandson Soma Antoni, Hungary), and Jodi Sutter (Steve Chalifoux), Fargo, ND; numerous in-laws, nieces, and cousins.
Ron was preceded in
death by: his parents,
brother, Wayne Sutter,
father-in law, Max Hem-
phill, nephew, Brian
Hemphill, borther-in-law Mike Hemphill.
A private family service
will be held at the Tho-
mas Family Funeral
Home, Minot due to CO-
VID restrictions.
A lunch gathering will
be held Friday, January
29, 2021 at the Sleep Inn,
Sunrise Room, Minot
from noon to 3:00 p.m. for
those wanting to stop and
visit.
Interment: Sawyer
