Eva H. Duchscherer
Dec.12, 1928-Dec. 30, 2020
Eva Helen Duchscherer,
92, Granville, died
Wednesday, Dec. 30,
2020, in a Minot hospital
due to injuries sustained
from a fall in her home 10
days earlier.
She was born Dec. 12,
1928, to Joseph M. and
Helen (Voller) Bachmeier
on the family farm near
Orrin. She was raised
there and attended
Rosebush Country School
in that area. She earned
her eighth grade diploma
after seven years of
schooling. She then
worked as a nanny for
several families.
She married Joseph M.
Duchscherer Oct. 5, 1948,
in the Catholic Church in
the Blumenfeld area. They
made their home on a
ranch west of Towner un-
til the spring of 1949
when they moved to Vel-
va where Joe began em-
ployment with Verendrye
Electric Cooperative. The
family moved to Granville
in June 1955 when Veren-
drye established an out-
post there. Joe died Jan.
29, 1979.
Eva continued to make
her home in Granville
where she was a cook at
Granville Public School
for 31 years. No matter
the weather she walked to
the post office almost dai-
ly to get her mail and fre-
quently to the Granville
Senior Center.
She was a member of
Granville Senior Citizens
and of St. Cecilia’s Cathol-
ic Church, Velva. She was
a former member of Our
Lady of Perpetual Help
Catholic Church, Gran-
ville, and Christian Moth-
ers Granville, until the
church was closed.
Eva loved to garden.
She would proudly tell
others how many quarts
and pints of tomatoes,
pickles, green beans and
beets she had canned
each year. Her children
and neighbors also en-
joyed the fresh produce
she shared. She was an
awesome baker and cook.
She faithfully watched
Wheel of Fortune every
evening at 6:30 and all her
children knew not to call
her during that time.
She loved doing em-
broidery and enjoyed
playing cards, especially
pinochle and back-alley
whist. Other games she
enjoyed included Rummi-
kub, Uno, Skip-Bo and
word search puzzles.
Above all, she was all
smiles when she got to
play cards and games
with her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by: her husband;
parents; brothers, Nick,
Matt, Leo, Ben, Adam and
William; son-in-law,
