Dennis S. Johnson
Oct. 14, 1943-Jan. 25, 2021
Dennis S. Johnson
passed away on January
25, 2021 at the Good
Samaritan Nursing Home
in Mohall, ND after a
short battle with cancer.
Dennis was born on Oc-
tober 14, 1943, to Sanford
and Thelma (Brekhus)
Johnson in Kenmare, ND.
He was raised on the fam-
ily farm north of Norma
with his brothers and a
sister.
Dennis attended Rock-
ford Country School
through the eighth grade.
For three years of high
school Dennis attended
the Dakota Lutheran
Academy in Minot, ND,
and graduated in 1961.
While attending high
school Dennis would live
in a dorm and travel home
about every other week-
end. Dennis had many
lifelong friends from his
days at Dakota Lutheran
and enjoyed the reunions
held almost every year.
On January 23,1963,
Dennis enlisted in the Un-
ited States Air Force.
Dennis was a Jet Engine
Mechanic and served
most of his term in Ok-
inawa. Dennis always said
he liked the night shift as
there were less people
around and he could actu-
ally get some work done.
Dennis was honorably
discharged on May 19,
1967.
Dennis returned to Ok-
inawa as a civilian and
worked for two years be-
fore returning home to
operate the family farm.
Dennis raised cattle along
with grains his entire life.
It was through the harvest
season of 2015 that he
met his hired hand
Matthew Lauver and they
formed a very close rela-
tionship. Dennis taught
Matthew well and treated
him like a son. Dennis re-
ceived several farming
awards a couple being one
from North Central Seed
Show in 1988 and another
from NDSU Harvest Bowl
award in 1989. Dennis
was Chairman for Ren-
ville County Crop Im-
provement Association for
at least one year.
Dennis started his rela-
tionship with Linda Love
in the early 70’s and they
remained friends doing
things together including
the time Dennis and Phi-
lip moved Linda to her
home in Minot in 1976. In
2001 to the present, they
remained constant com-
panions and farming the
Johnson/Love farms.
Matthew came to join Lin-
da and Dennis in 2015
and the three made a great
team.
Dennis enjoyed his
nieces and nephews and
when they were young, he
often took care of them
whenever possible.
Dennis served on the
township board for almost
30 years and also on the
Evanger Church Council
where he was a life long
member. Dennis was
coaxed by a pastor once to
sing with a group of men
and while he was hesitant
another gentleman said I
will if you will thus be
getting the choir started.
He is survived by: his
fiance Linda Love, sister
Shirley Monson and
brother Gary (Nancy)
Johnson, sister-in-law Ber-
nice Johnson and several
nieces and nephews. Spe-
cial friend Matthew
Lauver.

death by: his parents,
grandparents, brothers Or-
dell and Howard (Buddy)
and sister-in-law Bernice
(Ordell’s wife),
