Gerald Burkhartsmeier
May 25, 1941-Nov. 30, 2020
Gerald Vincent Bur-
khartsmeier, 79, passed
away on Monday, No-
vember 30, 2020, at the
Heart of America Care
Center.
Gerald, born on May 25,
1941, was the eldest son
of Peter and Marie (Peters)
Burkhartsmeier. He spent
much of his childhood on
the family farm and at-
tended school in Knox,
North Dakota. Following
his graduation, he worked
for the State Water
Department, Pleasant
Lake Grain and joined the
National Guard before
meeting and marrying Or-
pha Vestre in 1965. To-
gether they worked at the
Dairy Queen for one sea-
son before selling the
business and then he
started trucking for Unit-
ed Buckingham. Well, the
saying goes something
like this, “You can take
the boy off the farm but
you can’t take farming out
of the boy.” Gerald ended
up farming south of Knox
for more than 30 years.
Happily, this same land is
still being farmed by the
family. He was also a Pi-
erce County commis-
sioner from 1987-1990
and a volunteer fireman
for several years.
Gerald is survived by:
his wife of 55 years; three
daughters, LeAnn (Neil)
Fuchs of Jamestown,
Pamela Burkhartsmeier,
Bismarck, and Mary (Der-
rick) Klein, Rugby; 9
grandchildren, Kelli
Fuchs, Julie (Daniel)
Fischer, and Nikolaus
Fuchs, Emily, Jacob and
Joseph Bosley, Paxton,
Camile and Jaxon Klein,
plus one great-grandson,
Louie Neil Fischer. Gerald
also has two brothers:
Gene, of Rugby and
Charles (Sally), Faribault,
MN, and two sisters: Patti
Hook, Mesa, AZ, and Jane
(Paul) Kourajian, Lino
Lakes, MN.
He was preceded in
death by: his parents, sis-
ter Barbara, his
grandparents and several
aunts and uncles.
The family extends a
