Lyder Austin Nord, 91,
Minot, ND, died Thurs-
day, November 26, 2020,
at a Minot care facility.
Lyder was born on No-
vember 23, 1929, (or as he
said, 11/23/29 in a snows-
torm, named after the
doctor that delivered him)
to John and Irene (Ding-
man) Nord on the family
farm in Churchs Ferry,
ND. He was raised on the
farm and received his
education and graduated
from Churchs Ferry High
School in 1948. He was
very proud of being on the
high school basketball
team, making the all-state
team in 1948. In 1952,
Lyder enlisted in the Unit-
ed States Army. He
proudly served his coun-
try until his honorable
discharge on February 20,
1954.
On June 28, 1953, on a
hot 114 degree day, Lyder
was united in marriage to
Gloria Liudahl in Fort
Leonard Wood, MO. They
made their first home in
Churchs Ferry, then Rug-
by where he was em-
ployed with TBA, Home
of Economy, then
transferred with the com-
pany to Minot in 1967.
His customer service was
important to him, doing
many jobs throughout the
store, including manage-
ment of the tire depart-
ment. He was well known
for his honesty, drawing
in repeat customers. He
had 53 years of dedicated
service.
In his younger years he
helped out with the home
farm operations, as well
as assisted his brother Vic
with his meat shop. While
in Rugby he volunteered
with the fire department,
refereed basketball, and
assisted the sheriff when
needed. He was a member
of the Rugby City Council,
as well as president of the
Rugby Chamber Board of
Directors. He was a
member of Augustana
Lutheran Church, now
merged with Christ Luth-
eran, Minot. He was a
member of the Elks, Ea-
gles and American Legion
clubs.
Lyder’s hobbies includ-
ed fishing, hunting, hor-
seshoes, mowing lawns,
and cooking, including
many years of smoking
meats. He enjoyed listen-
ing to Sunday Polka Party,
playing cards and board
games. He enjoyed mak-
ing his daily phone calls
to his kids, always talking
about the weather, men-
toring, and giving advice
if needed.
He was resilient, beat-
ing COVID-19 in Sep-
tember. He was very
proud to have been able to
vote in the 2020 election.
Lyder is survived by:
his children: Linda

Lana (Larry) Hoff, Lisa
(Mitch) Moldenhauer;
grandchildren: Daisy
(Kory) Kenner, Luke

sisters-in-law: Joyce Nord,
Darlene Erickson (Milt),
Beaulah Sears and Arlyce
Liudahl; brother-in-law:
Robert Liudahl.
He is preceded in death
by: his wife, Gloria,
parents, son-in-law, Louie
Schafer, and siblings,
Marvin, Vic, Alice, Lois,
and Sid.
Visitation: Tuesday, De-
cember 1, 2020 from 5:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home Chapel, Minot.
Funeral Service:
Wednesday, December 2,
2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home Chapel, Minot,
for immediate family.
Burial with military
honors: Wednesday, De-
cember 2, 2020, at 11:40
p.m. at Rosehill Memorial
Park, Minot. Public is wel-
come to attend.
