LaVonne M. Hensen,
82, Glenburn, ND, died
Monday, November 23rd,
2020, in a Mandan hospi-
tal.
LaVonne Marie Tofstad
was born on May 1, 1938,
along with her twin broth-
er LaVern, the daughter of
Theodore and Edna (New-
man) Tofstad in Minot,
ND. She was raised on
the family farm south of
Minot, where she attend-
ed Harmony Country
School through the 8th
grade. After the 8th
grade, she transferred to
Minot High School. Dur-
ing her high school years,
she worked at the Super-
Valu Grocery Store.
LaVonne was first unit-
ed in marriage to Alan
Woods. Together they
had a son, Brad. Alan
was in the military, and
they made their home in
Washington and Ken-
tucky before returning to
North Dakota. LaVonne
worked at an Assisted Liv-
ing Facility while in
Washington, and she
worked for Auran Chev-
rolet in Minot. Alan died
in 1972. She then
worked at Cenex Seed in
Minot, and it was at
Cenex Seed where she
met the love of her life,
Dennis Hensen.
On February 14th,
1974, LaVonne, was unit-
ed in marriage to Dennis,
in Minot. They made
their home on the Hensen
farm near Glenburn, ND,
where she was a
homemaker and assisted
Dennis in the operations
of the farm. In April of
1979 their daughter,
Melanie Kay, was born.
LaVonne was very active
within the city of Glen-
burn, serving on the Elec-
tion Committee, and the
Development Board.
She was a member of
St. Philomena’s Catholic
Church in Glenburn,
where she was active
within the Altar Society
and did lots of sewing for
the church. She was in
Homemakers and in
several Bowling Leagues.
She also was an excellent
seamstress, sewing for
family and friends. She
made prom dresses,
bridesmaid dresses, al-
tered many wedding
dresses, and made hun-
dreds of quilts. You name
it, she did it! LaVonne
really enjoyed quilting.
She donated lots and lots
of quilts, gave many away
to various Assisted Living
Facilities, and the YWCA.
She was also an excellent
caregiver for her entire
family, and loved spend-
ing time with her family
and friends.
She enjoyed card play-
ing, crocheting, cooking,
Sudoku, playing Solitaire
on the computer, baking
caramel rolls, buns, cho-
colate chip cookies,
elephant ears, brownies,
and making potato salad.
She made excellent
homemade pizza, as
well. She loved the
color red! LaVonne
loved going to games, and
watching games online, to
cheer on her Grand-
daughters, Emma and
Mila. They were in Soft-
ball, Basketball, Volley-
ball, and other various ac-
tivities. She was a lov-
ing Wife, Mother, Grand-
mother, Great Grandmoth-er, Sister, Aunt, and
friend. She will be
missed by everyone that
knew her.
She is survived by her
Husband of 46 years,

(Ben) Jones; six
Grandchildren: Sheila

Woods, Erin (Wyatt)
Werner, Emma and Mila
Jones, Danny and Breanna
Garman; six Great-
Grandchildren: David,
Russia and Alia Eurek,
Lorelai Herbert, Stryker
and Coraline Wern-
er. Siblings: LaVern
(Anna) Tofstad, Vera (Ter-
ry) Woelber, Carol
(Chuck) Strain, Julie (Ter-
ry) Markle; Brothers and
Sisters-in-law: Glen Dunk-
el, Ron (Donna) Hensen,
Rich (Dianne) Hensen.
Several Nieces, Nephews,
and Cousins also sur-
vive.
LaVonne was preceded
in death by her Parents,
Infant Daughter-Darla
Mae, Brother-Ronnie
Tofstad, and Sister-Jean
Dunkel.
The family would like
to thank all those who
cared for LaVonne, espe-
cially Trinity Home
Health, which made her
last 15 months at home
possible. Also, thank you
to all of you who have
been so kind and thought-
ful at this most difficult
time. Your love and
friendship, now, and
throughout the years, has
meant so much to all of
us. May God Bless the
memory of LaVonne.
