John P. Buechler
Aug. 6, 1932-Nov. 20, 2020
John Peter Buechler, 88,
longtime Minot resident,
died Friday, November
20, 2020 in a Minot Hos-
pital.
John was born August
6, 1932 on a farm near
Hague, North Dakota, the
son of Peter and Elizabeth
(Holzer) Buechler. He
was raised on the family
farm and educated at a
country school until the
eighth grade. He, along
with his eight siblings,
helped on the family
farm, thus instilling the
hard work ethic he lived
by throughout the years.
John was united in mar-
riage to Alice Jundt on
June 20, 1961 in Fulda,
ND. From this union,
they had six children:
Mike, Bruce, Tim, Laurie,
Lisa and Tammy. They
had celebrated their 54th
wedding anniversary be-
fore Alice passed away on
July 11, 2015.
In their younger years,
John and Alice loved to go
dancing and socialize.
They especially enjoyed
attending family reunions
and reminiscing about the
past with their siblings.
John enjoyed playing
cards and was an avid pi-
nochle player; he didn’t
like to miss out on many
games. He loved to joke
around just to get you to
laugh. In his spare time,
John loved playing hor-
seshoes and trust me, you
wanted him on your team!
He loved Mom’s fried
chicken, her amazing
meatballs and his favorite,
her delicious chocolate
pie. He was addicted to
Hacienda’s pork chops
and would sit down, put
his feet up and watch ei-
ther Gunsmoke or the
Andy Griffith Show. He
knew EVERY episode and
laughed like he had never
seen it before!
Although John was a
lifelong resident of Minot,
he spent most of his days
out of town. He worked
for several construction
companies including
Bechtold Excavating,
Close Construction and
Kemper Construction. In
the early 1990’s, John and
his son, Bruce, started
Buechler Excavating. He
loved being a heavy
equipment operator, dig-
ging sewers and working
alongside his son. His
grandchildren enjoyed the
rides in the equipment
along with the stories that
he shared. He retired in
2013, but continued to do
odd jobs for friends.
John and Alice moved
into Edgewood Vista in
2014. He resided there
until November of 2018,
with a short stay at the
Good Samaritan Center in
Fargo. He lived at Maple
View Memory Care in
Minot until the time of his
death. John was a kind
and gentle man. He
touched many hearts and
will be truly missed!
