Julie Gibbs
March 29, 1960-Oct. 1, 2020
Julie Gibbs, 60, Minot
and formerly of Glenburn
and Las Vegas died peace-
fully on Thursday, Oc-
tober 1, 2020 in a Grand
Forks Hospital following a
long battle with Lupus.
Her loving family was at
her side.
Julie Beth McNabb was
born on March 29, 1960 in
Minot to Sylvester and
Esther (Broderson)
McNabb. She was raised
on a farm at the edge of
Glenburn and attended
school in Glenburn. She
graduated from Glenburn
High School in 1978. As a
young adult she was em-
ployed at “ITY” women’s
clothing store, as a
manager and gemologist
of a Bismarck jewelry
store and was owner/
manager of VideoMagic.
Julie married the love of
her life, Arlo Gibbs, on
July 7, 1990 at Hope Luth-
eran Church in Glenburn.
They made their home in
Minot prior to moving to
Las Vegas where she and
her husband owned and
operated Neil’s Cabinet
Shop and she was em-
ployed by the Better Busi-
ness Bureau as a media-
tor/negotiator and was
responsible for organizing
company mixers. Lupus
forced her early retire-
ment.
Julie was an inspiration
to those who knew her.
She persevered through
many physical trials
through her battle with
Lupus. Unable to work a
fulltime job, she reached
out to fellow sufferers of
Lupus and was instru-
mental in starting a sup-
port organization. She and
her great friend Hui-Lim
Ang created “Colors of
Lupus” to which she de-
voted time in fund raising
to provide physical and
financial support for those
in Las Vegas.
Julie also volunteered
many hours to her “kids”
in the Kiwanis Club in Las
Vegas. She was recog-
nized as the volunteer of
the year. She loved them
and they loved her back.
She was also an active
member of the Golden K
Kiwanis Club in Minot.
She inspired family and
friends by her devotion to
helping others when we
all knew her personal
struggles with health. She
was truly our personal
“Hero”. During the Iraq
War she worked tirelessly
to send 100 “care pack-
ages” to soldiers. Just after
this time she suffered
another Lupus flare and a
stroke. Those same sol-
diers sent her cards and
letters to express their
thanks and to say “If a sol-
dier ever needed a hero,
she was theirs”. Also, Ju-
lie was an active member
of the Good Samaritan
Church – Las Vegas. She
organized and led the
Angel Tree program and
Homeless Aide program.
She was recognized for
her community service
when she received the
Courage Award from the
governor of Nevada.
Her hobbies included
family genealogy and she
was just learning the art
of making greeting cards
at the time of her death.
